Cement Standards

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) establishes the rules for CE marking of construction products and aims to ensure that the industry can rely on up-to-date harmonised standards aligned with environmental policy objectives.

Under the CPR Acquis process for cement, a new standardisation request has been issued, forming the basis for the ongoing revision of the European harmonised cement standard EN 197-1. This revision, led by CEN Technical Committee 51 “Cement and Building Limes”, will introduce a performance-based approach and integrate the low-carbon cement standards EN 197-5 and EN 197-6.

This will enable a wider range of low-carbon cements to be placed on the EU market and support their uptake across the construction value chain. Ensuring timely adoption and consistent implementation of these standards will be key to facilitating market access, supporting innovation and strengthening the competitiveness of the sector.
