Health & Safety

Zero Harm

The health and safety of employees are a top priority for Europe’s cement industry.

The production, storage, transportation, and distribution of cement involve potential hazards that must be managed proactively. The industry is fully committed to achieving zero harm, protecting workers and contractors through continuous improvement in health and safety practices, behaviours, and processes.

Our goal is to foster a culture where safety and wellbeing are embedded in every aspect of our work. The sector is continuously:

  • Improving health and safety practices
  • Ensuring systematic application of safety standards
  • Informing and involving employees on risks related to their activities and providing appropriate training and equipment
  • Implementing regular medical health surveillance for employees
  • Promoting and sharing best practices among stakeholders on health and safety issues

EU-OSHA 2023-25 Campaign - Healthy Workplaces, Digital Age

The rapid digitalisation of workplaces has created new opportunities for efficiency and productivity but it also brings new challenges for occupational safety and health (OSH). These risks must be properly assessed and managed to ensure that workers across Europe can operate safely and healthily in a changing environment.

The 2023–2025 EU-OSHA Healthy Workplaces Campaign, “Safe and healthy work in the digital age,” raises awareness of the impact of digital technologies on work and how to address related risks.

Cement Europe is an official partner of this campaign. We recognise the importance of digital transformation and work with stakeholders to raise awareness and share best practices for the safe, productive, and responsible use of digital technologies. Find out more in our press release.

EU-OSHA 2020-22 Campaign - Healthy Workplaces, Lighten the Load

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are among the most common work-related health issues, affecting millions of workers across Europe.

As an official partner of the EU-OSHA “Healthy Workplaces – Lighten the Load” campaign, Cement Europe organised a webinar with its members to exchange experiences, share good practices, and explore new ways the cement sector can contribute to preventing work-related MSDs.

We also launched a video showcasing members’ initiatives to reduce risks and “lighten the load” across the industry.
